So I've been good-bookless for a while now (although I just started reading Lord of the Rings) and, since I've noticed most of us AWs have similar interest, I was looking for book recommendations.

Oh, here are some of my favorites:

The Hunger Games Series by Suzanne Collins (The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay coming out Aug 24<---- so excited! Very Happy ) And if there's any fans of the series here, there's a video contest on teenreads.com. Here's a link: http://www.teenreads.com/community/contests/mockingjay_video_contest.asp
You can win a copy of Mockingjay signed by Suzanne Collins. Smile

And I loved the first Maximum Ride book by James Patterson. I didn't think the others were that great though, kinda went downhill from the second one.

Have you read anything by Tamora Pierce? I kinda love her.

And yeah, I love the LOTR.

Uhm.... Esther Freisner, Neal Shusterman, Brian Jaques, and the Forging the Sword trilogy by Hilari Bell... Marcus Zusak, Scott Westerfield, the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.

That's probably a good start.

Haha, I also want to start to read Lord of the Rings! I'm planning to start reading Percy Jackson and the Olympians series too once I can gather enough will-power to lay down my HP books and set them aside for a bit. Laughing My brother read them and they seem interesting; I've always been fascinated by mythology. I've also heard that the Percy Jackson author is starting a new series concerning Egyptian mytholgy, so you may be intrigued by those. Happy reading! Very Happy

I would def. recommend the series "Pretty Little Liars" which are very good, 8 books in total. I know there is a TV series for it now, but, honestly, they ruined it. KInda like HBP and OOTP for HArry Potter movies.

I am slightly reading Percy Jackson, which is actually really good, although, I've only read the first one. They were actually really good, I found myself making Harry Potter references during them :-) But, since I don't know much on Greek Myths, I got confused when they talked about the many gods mentioned.

I've read 'My Sisters Keeper' which was VERY VERY good, and such a moving book. Don't watch the movie of it though, it was completely wrong.

I love LotR! Because of it, I began liked to fantasy, and I eventually read Harry Potter. I figure you've already read The Hobbit, but if you haven't, you need too. It explains a lot of things that go on in LotR. But as for other books, I really like a lot of historical fiction. Hattie Big Sky (can't remember who it's by right at this moment) is one of my favorites. And I'm a huge Mark Twain fan, a lot of his books are really good. And I love a bunch of the classic books. You can never really go wrong with reading Little Women or To Kill a Mocking Bird (read that book in school this year & I loved it!).

yea LOTR and The Hobbit are a definite must read! I love JRR Tolkien!
And I know it's already been said but The Hunger Games is really good too!

I personally really like the Inheritance Cycle but I've heard a lot of controversy over whether it's good or not, but I still really like it. Then I think Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a good "teen read" like it's not that meaningful and deep compared to some of my other books, but it's a good amusing fun book series to read. and the Chronicles of Narnia is kind of in the same boat as that.
I really like the Inkheart series as well but it's not as good as some of my other books. But 'Doppelganger' and 'Warrior and Witch' are two really good books too.

Some other good books are Battle Royale: <3 It's really action packed and kind of intense but it is such a good read!
The Neverending Story: one of those books where the main character will piss you off at times but the book is still really good and you like the plot.
Holder of Lightning: I personally love this book, but I haven't gotten around to buying the second book yet >.<

But I absolutely love Mercedes Lackey's books. If you want a long read that is deep, and a more 'adult' book go for some of her books, I started off with The Fairy Godmother in the Five Hundred Kingdoms series by her and then just started reading some of her other books, but my favorite would probably be Brightly Burning, but her series are really good too like the Halfblood Chronicles, or the Obsidian Mountain Trilogy

Ok so far i agree with everyone all of those are really good books. Battle Royal is amazing and if you liked The Hunger Games you'll probably like Battle Royal since it deals with the same concept.
13 Reasons Why- It was pretty good and creative. It is more of a teen book though.
His Dark Materials Trilogy- Very good. If you liked Narnia you'll probably like it.
Hatching Magic- Very cute though not amazing literature.
The Five People You Meet In Heaven- very good and emotional.
The Shadow of the Wind and The Angels Game both by Carlos Ruiz Zafon- Both books are amazing the author does a realy good job with description and adding literary devices. He also mixes in reality with fantacy. Both books have different genres.

I love Tamora Pierce as well! I am currently reading Pretty Little Liars, read Percy Jackson, and I started but didn't finish The Hobbit.

One of my favorite books is Wicked Lovely, if you like fantasy it's a great read. Very dark and enchanting. I haven't read the sequel to it though.

Also The Luxe series is just amazing, I couldn't put them down. It's historical fiction/romance/mystery, I really don't know how to describe it! But it follows a few different people in the early 1900's in upper-class NYC. AMAZING.

For teen realistic fiction I enjoyed TTYL, TTFN and L8R G8R. If you're opposed to text talk I wouldn't recommend it though, as the format of the books is IM's between three characters.

I haven't finished Pride and Prejudice, though I plan to. I have to read it in small doses, unlike any other book I've read. For some reason I just can't speed through it.... Other classics I've been holding off are Little Women and Jane Eyre.

Thanks for all of your suggestions, I will definitely put them on my reading list!

Okay... I'm going to limit myself to just ten books here, 'cause I'm an unrepentant book slut and aspiring Lit teacher and if I don't, I'll chew up all the bandwidth. Here goes:

1. A Tree Grows In Brooklyn by Betty Smith (this is my all-time favorite book),
2. Flowers For Algernon by Daniel Keyes
3. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon
4. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
5. Fool by Christopher Moore
6. The Princess Bride by William Goldman (yes, it's a book; yes, it's just as great as the movie)
7. Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes by Chris Crutcher
8. The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
9. Black Beauty by Anna Sewell
10. Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

DorkyBookworm - I like Inheritance too Smile Can't wait until the last one comes out.
tenderlumplig - I loved The Princess Bride - it was just as good as the movie, to me.

I also like LOTR (though I haven't finished them yet - I stopped partway through The Return of the King because of school); The Hobbit, naturally; Jane Austen novels (just like Quirrell Razz), but particularly Pride and Prejudice; the Ranger's Apprentice series; the Trixie Belden series; The Chronicles of Narnia; and, despite it's being intended for children, I still like reading Rowan of Rin.

I am definitely going to read some of the books you guys have suggested, they sound great Smile

Tenderlumpling, no worries, I'm a bit of a book slut as well. Razz Lemme try to get them all down....

1. The Harry Potter Series (duh x])
2. The Hobbit (I've tried to read the rest, but couldn't make myself for some reason. But I will try again, and if nothing else, AUDIO BOOKS!)
3. Pride and Prejudice
4. The Princess Bride
5. Tuesdays with Morrie
6. Interview with the Vampire
7. The Great Gatsby
8. Flowers for Algernon
9. Anything by Stephen King
10. World War Z (I just read it recently, and its FANTASTIC. If you like zombie lit, that is. Razz)

Those are by no means in any kind of order, and I know that's not a complete list. The numbers were more to help me keep track of everything and make it easier to read. Razz

I'll definitely be doing A TON of reading in the near future after I get settled into the school-mode/schedual again. I STILL haven't finished The Fellowship of the Ring, but I'm almost done! I promise! I put it down for a while but I've been reading it lately. I literally just put it down before coming on here. Smile I did read the Hobbit, it was on my summer reading list. I've been wanting to read LTR for a while and when I saw the Hobbit I started there.

13 Reasons Why was also on the list (of about 80 books and we only had to read one, but of course I couldn't limit myself to that single, lonely number). I absolutely loved that book. I'm not a really big fan of realistic fiction, but that was so amazing. I'm also reading the third book, Lies, in the Gone series by Michael Grant (So far not as great as the first, or even second), Witch and Wizard by James Patterson (I'm not that huge of a James Patterson fan and this book isn't that amazing). I also recently finished I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore (sorry if the name's not spelled perfectly), which was an interesting enough read.

I loved, loved, loved To Kill A Mockingbird when we read it last year in school. One of the best books I've read in school or otherwise.

I'm sure there's more books I love, but have just slipped my mind at the moment. Smile

I just got three of my most sought-after books: The Once and Future King by T. H. White, The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton, and Dracula by Bram Stoker. And I've been reading The Zombies of Lake Woebegotten by Harrison Geillor, which is insanely funny but very much geared towards adults (LOTS and lots of language).

Anybody else have some good reading of late?

Hey, it's foreshadowing7815. I don't feel like logging in. Smile

I recently read The Hunger Games.... SO EPIC. I was home sick for three days straight, so I read the trilogy in three days. I felt bad sending my mom back and forth to the bookstore hehe. Smile

Another book I started was The Devil Wears Prada. It's really good, better than the movie obviously. It's hysterical! I didn't have anything else to read, so I just picked it up.

Harry Potter Film Wizardry is amazing as well....but that's a given haha. I was pretty depressed at the marauder's map that came in it, because it wasn't as big as it should be. The literary content is outstanding though.

hmmm I actually haven't read any books recently, I've been reading LOTR (which is taking much longer than it should be taking me because of college and fanfics >.<)

but I'm planning on reading Dracula at some point after I finish LOTR, after that I'll probably read the Mercedes Lackey books I bought that I haven't read yet, and then go onto the Stephen King books I rescued from my dad (he abuses books, and they were literally falling apart at the seams Sad )

OMR Film Wizardry is amazing!!! I just got it this week but I haven't actually been able to read through it because I've had so much schoolwork but from what I've looked at, it's amazing!

I never get to read as much anymore. Sad It makes me sad. Plus I borrow books from the library and the library I go to is kind of small and doesn't have many interesting books.

Some books I like are:
- The Ranger's Apprentice series by John Flanagan
- The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini
- All Jane Austen novels (Pride and Prejudice and Northanger Abbey are my favourites)
- The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis
- The Tomorrow series by John Marsden
- Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer (I can't say about the series, I've only read the first, but it was awesome!)
- The What Katy Did series by Susan Coolidge
- The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkein
- A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett
I do like LOTR even though I haven't finished reading The Return of the King yet.

I just read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. It is officially my eighth favorite book (behind Harry Potter of course!). It really is amazing. It's about a writer in London who loses her Charles Lamb book, which is then found by a man in Guernsey. They exchange letters, and begin to correspond with each other regularly. Juliet, the writer, finds out about the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, and also sends out letters to the other people of Guernsey. The setting is post World War II, so there is a lot of historical information about the German Occupation. It really is a lovely book, especially in the landscape descriptions and character development. I really, strongly recommend this to EVERYONE! The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. READ IT! You won't regret it:)

Also, has anyone read The Perks of Being a Wallflower? I did, and loved it, and now Emma Watson is going to be in the movie as Sam!
